Woodfired pizza at it’s best. Via Tribunali’s freshly made pizzas are made from ingrediants imported from Italy, and (almost) taste as good as sitting in the Piazza del Poppolo. The menu consists of the standard combinations of fresh tomatoes, procuitto, pepperoni, mushrooms, fresh buffalo mozzerella with a few other specialties (like anchovies). The crust is delightfuly thin, and the sauce perfectly seasoned. Pizzas aren’t cut… but they are easy to tear, which adds to the experience. Sit at the bar, and you can watch the pizzas cooking… each one only takes about 5 minutes.
Pizzas are sized for 2 people to split, if you have a salad as well. The few choices of salads are simple but good… we had the chopped salad with lots of olives, cheese and procuitto, but the procuitto was a little to ham-like for my taste. The caprese however was excellent.
The wine list is small, but has some nice choices of Chianti and is served in Italian wine glasses, which I always love. Also on the menu is lasagna (made at Osteria La Spiga), which I haven’t tried there but I’m sure is as great as it is at it’s home restaurant.
We’ve now been there twice, and it’s been packed both times… but we’ve been able to get in within a few minutes each time. Service has been very good despite the crowds.
