Tubs was considered the “Sandwich Mecca” in my group at my former POE. A group of 6 of us would pile into a car and try to make it over to Lake City from Redmond in an hour. We rarely made it on time, but it was always worth the drive.
As I mentioned in my Honey Hole post, there are lots of great sandwich spots in Seattle, and Tubs is my second favorite. The sandwiches are huge, and come in sizes from Mini to Large. I usually get the mini, which is about 4 inches long and almost as high. If you are a meat lover, I highly recommend the Joker, which piles stacks of ham, turkey, roast beef and bacon together and tops it with smoked gouda all on a perfectly toasted baguette. Dip it in their spicy BBQ sauce for huge flavor. Personally, it’s a little too much sub for me. I prefer the the Phoenix… it’s amazing combination of turkey, cream cheese, gouda and raspberry chipotle sauce is like nothing I’ve ever had… it doesn’t come with the BBQ sauce, but I usually find some at the table that I can steal. Other interesting combinations are the Tokyo Club, which combines roast beef with garlic-wasabi mayo and avocado. Oh, and almost everything comes with bacon unless you specify otherwise.
You might want to avoid going between noon and 1. It wasn’t just our Sub Mecca… several of the neighborhood high schools have open campus, and the kids in the upper grades flock to Tubs as well.
