First of all, Joe Bar is located in one of my favorite neighborhoods in Seattle… right across from the Harvard Exit Theater, my favorite cinema. So, it has that going for it. But even if it didn’t this is a place to love. It’s very small space is used completely, including a nice little loft area with a few small tables. Wireless, when it’s working, is free. The staff is super friendly, and while not exactly fast, quick enough to not hold up too much of a line. The walls are covered with frequently rotating artwork (btw, if you are an artist that hasn’t been exhibited in Seattle, this is a great place to kick off a showing. Check out their artist’s submission page.)
And, of course, the food. The crepes, soups, salads and sandwiches are perfect for this place. Today I had the special crepe… spiced pumpkin pure, sage and chevre. A combination that wouldn’t normally strike me, despite the fact that I love all the flavors individually. This crepe was like eating autumn. If falling red and gold leaves, crisp air and a roaring fire could be wrapped up in a flavor this would be it. Not really sweet and not really salty, the smooth silky texture of the crepe was the perfect accompaniment to oozing, warm pumpkin. The crepes at 611 supreme are probably still the best in town, but you can’t get them quickly wrapped up to go as you window shop at OKOK around the corner. I also had a latte, my usual, which was fine. Not great, but certainly better than mainstream. They also have beer and wine, including Red Stripe (Hooray Beer!)
