I love this! A friend of mine did something similar - i.e. not traditional - with sambar powder when I gifted her a basket of spice mixes. She stir-fried some veggies, added coconut milk and sambar powder. It was like an Indianized Thai curry that went really well with rice!

The sambar powder looks a lot more red in color than the one I would make from scratch or the brand I use on a regular basis. I'm guessing that this is sold as an "all-in-one" mix.

Best of luck to Venkat and his Mom for an enterprising business venture!

The spice powder will probably work really well for a curried cauliflower soup. Sambhar powder is actually used for making sambhar only(sambhar is a type of curry which is eaten with idlia and dosas) in southern India...but there's no harm in experimenting with other recipes either :)

Great photos (obviously). And a creative recipe. It's great to see someone come up with an interesting usage that looks like it works intuitively. (Sometimes people make a sauce and "dump the powder" in it. That turns out less than spectacular, as expected.)

Thanks for the kind words! My mom was very excited to see the pictures and the write up.
