I envy the fact that your oven fits full sheet pans. Mine are currently stashed away because my oven won't fit them yet I'm holding onto them in a desperate need to feel I'll make use of them some day.

These sound great and I always seem to have a supply of some sort of dried fruit after I make my granola. I have candied ginger too, what a great addition to a cookie and with some good chocolate chips! Just found your site today, a am just discovering the world of cooking blogs! I am going nuts researching recipes and trying them out! My old father is loving it! Your pictures are amazing!

thank you for the great recipe! I am gluten free and did successfully make this dough with gluten free flour (1/2 bob's red mill all purpose bean flour and 1/2 plain white rice flour). however, as with all gluten free baking I added the necessities....1/2 t baking powder, 1/2 t baking soda and 1/2 t guar gum. I also rolled it out on (rice) floured parchment since g/f tends to be sticky. I made one 1/2 of the dough with a simple melted butter/sugar/cinnamon filling and the other with a sweet cream cheese filling. yum! next time I'm trying a savory spinach and cheese filling. I have a g/f pastry recipe but never tried it. yours was too simple to ignore!! now I'll throw the other one away! glad I found this!

Hi Babyjolie,

hmm. well, I didn't think so. However, I did do a look back at the original recipe and you are right, it did include some buttermilk. However, it's been over 2 years since I posted this, and it is certainly possible. I haven't made this particular recipe since... I fell in love with a different Macrina scone recipe, that uses whipped cream (instead of the butter).

hmm.. just wondering.. is this missing 3/4 cup of buttermilk by any chance?
Or did you omit that from the original recipe?

Sorry to be such a bother.

I'm kind of wondering about the dough.. I know scones are a bit on the dry side, but this is kind of scaring me.
But it rolled okay.. I guess I'll know when it comes out of the oven. I kind of feel like it needs milk or cream.

Either way, I love this entry, & that cafe!! This is most definitely one of my favorite entries.
